WOMEN’S COMMITTEE

News from the Women’s Committee meeting held on April 14 2011.

How good it was to see so many people in the field for our regular programme re-launch. Conditions were perfect and lots of fun was had by all who attended. Tim Green from Pilates Personal Training spoke to us about his golf focussed Pilates programme & kindly sponsored the two major prizes. Congratulations to Mihee Woo & Heather Harman who won vouchers to attend sessions with Tim.

Our new teaching professional, Jason Tilley also spoke to us and told us of some of the lesson options and packages he is offering.

FUTURE EVENTS

Match Play Events

A number of draws for match play trophies had been posted or qualifying rounds played prior to EQ2.

This includes: Kingscote Cup, Dobermann Cup, Dorothy Anderson and Wilkin Cup games.

The committee has decided to continue with these events but to relax the time frames. All match play for these trophies must be completed by the due date on the draw. In the interests of other games, please complete any games you may be involved in ASAP.

The Nancy McCormick & Joan Howarth have been cancelled but we will run future trophy games according to the programme.

A folder with the trophy draws will be placed in the Caddy Shack with all the relevant draws in it. Please check if you have qualified to play in a match you may have forgotten about!

NEW MEMBERS

We welcome a number of women from Waimairi Beach Golf Club who are joining us as temporary members until the end of the year.

POINTS of INTEREST

About the Course

The course is back to 18 holes and the current weather conditions must be great for the new grass growth. Please check the notice board outside the pro shop for special conditions or changes on the course as it is restored. Note that for next week holes 15 & 16 will not be in play to allow the Council to work on the drains. Cross from 14 to 17 & mark your card with whatever score would allow you 2 stableford points for the 2 holes missed.

There was concern raised at the meeting about the numbers of fresh pitch marks left unrepaired on the greens during the game on Tuesday. Please repair your pitch marks and make sure you have a repair tool in your pocket. You may find the starter checking on this in the future! Also be aware around the re-sown grass and check that you know where you are allowed to drop your ball.

Red Tees

Some members are finding parts of the course a bit difficult. We encourage you to play off the red tees. The aim of golf is surely to enjoy the game and you may find playing off the red tees is the best option for you. Make sure you print out your card with the red tee ratings and handicap if you choose to do this.

Nine Hole Thursdays

EQ2 put paid to our efforts to get 9 hole golf underway, but it will resume again on Thursday April 28. You can tee off anytime between 9 – 9.30am.

Friday Scramble

Is underway again. 9.00am start each Friday morning for those keen to get in an extra round before the weekend.

Waimairi Beach Golf Club Women

The Waimairi course suffered severe damage during EQ2 and members currently have no options on their home course. As stated, a number of Waimairi women have joined as temporary members, but from April 26 we will also be offering 15 spaces in our Tuesday field for Waimairi women who wish to pay green fees & play with our women. There will be designated spaces on our draw sheet for them on the 26th, following that, they will put their names onto the sheet as we do. Please welcome them among us.

SNIPPETS

Committee member Helen MacLeod-Walker left on a trip to London this morning, we hope she has a great trip. Helen’s Haggle will continue on Wednesdays in her absence, remember to put $2 in your pocket and write your name on the sheet in the pro shop to enter the game of the day.

We are very aware that many of our members have suffered loss of homes or very substantial damage post EQ2. This is a time where we as a group can support each other, maybe with physical help, but also by just being there if needed. Please contact a committee member if you are aware of member who may need some help.

Our sympathy is extended to Prue Willis as she faces the sudden loss of her husband, Paul. Our thoughts are with you Prue as you face the difficult days ahead.

Have Your Say

This news sheet is designed to improve communication among our women members. If you have issues you would like to raise, or information you consider would help other members, please contact a committee member or email janet.ross@clear.net.nz
