Welcome to the Christchurch Golf Club at the Shirley Links.

The Christchurch Golf Club has a proud history that dates back to 1873, and has played its part in full to grow the game of golf in New Zealand. The Club is the second oldest in New Zealand and the fifth oldest outside the United Kingdom. The course has held numerous New Zealand Open and Amateur, Men’s and Women’s Championships over the years. The course is renowned world-wide as a challenging championship course of the highest quality which offers a fair test of golf for both club and professional golfer.

The club has always been fortunate to have top quality volunteers who fill the roles as Club Presidents, Club Captains, Board and Committee members.

The club appoints club professionals who could both teach and play golf at the top level.  Anthony Doyle fills that role with passion, commitment and skill.

The Christchurch Golf Club is very proud of former Club Champion and now Patron Sir Bob Charles, New Zealand’s most successful professional golfer, best known for winning the 1963 British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes. He is also one of the most successful left-handed golfers of all time, being the first lefty to win a golf major, winning more than 70 titles, and beating his age twice during a tournament as a 71 year-old.

In 1968 he finished 2nd in the Open Championship, US PGA, 7th in the US Open and 19that the Masters

He generously donated the winning clubs from The Open Championship win in 1963 (which are on display in the “Sir Bob Charles Long Room”) along with many other pieces of his memorabilia.
