Winter Interclub 2013 : Simon and Blank Cups

These interclub competitions start in the winter and are played on Sundays through until Finals Day on November 10th.

Both teams field 8 players with handicaps likely ranging from 6-8 to scratch. Ideally each team would have a group of 10 players committed to playing every match as winter ills, work and holidays seem to interfere without fail at times. Both grades are 18 hole matches “off the stick”.

Blank Cup (the 2nd grade) starts in August 25th. It will be a mixture of 36 hole and 18 hole days this year. Contact manager Glenn Keen (ph 337-3313 or 021-342-449) if interested in playing in this grade. It is considered the stepping stone for better players who want to progress to the Woodward Cup grade in future years.

Simon Cup (the 3rd grade) starts on July 14. It will be 18 holes per day and is played roughly fortnightly, but not always. It is also a stepping stone and a good introduction to match-play at the senior level. Contact the managers at the Club, or by phone, Rod Hayes (03 366-2200) or Peter Sim (03 3559-218) if interested in this. We are the defending Champions of the Simon Cup grade, and have a team keen to win again this year. The average age of the team last year was about 47 years.

Teams will be selected based on a mixture of handicap, match play experience, Club Champs results, some trial games if needed, and an eye to team unity. Team uniform is back trousers, red Club shirt and black Club pullover. Christchurch Golf Club prides itself on having teams that represent the club well in all aspects of presentation, endeavour and sportsmanship.

Members who are interested in selection should contact the team managers by Queens Birthday weekend.
