Junior Newsletter January 2013
Welcome to the 2013 season
We hope everyone has had a great break and enjoying not having to go to school. If you have been practicing your chipping while away on holiday hopefully there has not been too many broken windows!
The season is quickly underway with Junior Interclub commencing on February 3rd. The Junior coaching also gets started in February and an opening day is going to be held on the 17th with a chance to meet up again and there is a lunch and fun competitions being organised so pencil in 12-3pm.
Sponsorship
We firstly wish to acknowledge the generous sponsorship of Ian Dobson to support the Junior Golf program. This has allowed the program to proceed faster than initially planned and includes equipment for the coaching, uniforms and Junior development.
Junior Opening Day
We will gather for a lunch at the club on the 17th 12.30pm and then have some coaching, and chipping and putting competitions. The costs of this are being covered by the funds from last year’s coaching sessions so please register your interest if you want to attend.
Junior Interclub
Competition dates are 3&24 Feb, 3&10 March, 21 &28 April, 12th May, Semi/Finals 19th May. We hope to enter 2 or 3 teams and please register your availability with the Office or Pro Shop. Each team has 4 players and you should plan to play all the matches as no reserves will be named in any team. In the event of a player being unavailable then a substitute can be arranged.
Each team will require a manager so parents if interested let us know. The managerial duties are not onerous and can be shared with the main criteria being able to attend the match on the day.

This year the main information source will be the club website – Junior section, check it out at http://www.christchurchgolf.co.nz/.
Currently the home page and putting competition results are there but we hope to have a calendar, coaching and news sections available shortly.
Coaching
With increasing numbers and generous sponsorship the coaching format is changing. An excerpt from the email sent out by Anthony Doyle, our resident Pro and Junior Golf Coach is:
“We have a great 2013 programme with some great plans and ideas which you will all be a part of. This year is a big year for some of you as some will be gaining their first handicap and some will be progressing onto another Junior Development Programme. Some will be playing Junior Interclub for the golf club and all of you will be improving in more ways than one!
One awesome thing about 2012 group for coaching is that we have a regular attendance and you all look to enjoy the programme! Your listening skills and understanding of the golf swing and concept is really impressive and this makes our job and encouragement much easier. I'm committed to helping you all and develop your skills to your best ability, so I hope you are all on board to make this happen. Bring it on team!
… With our 2013 programme we have decided after two coaching sessions we would encourage you to become either a Junior Member or a Junior Academy Member. We have brochures and info for you at the next coaching session which is SUNDAY 13TH JANUARY 2pm. This will provide you with opportunities to gain a handicap and to develop you skills and game on a truly Championship Golf Course - The Christchurch Golf Club. Junior Organisation
A meeting was held on Tuesday 8th January and the minutes can be found in the notices section of the club web site. You will need to access to this via your membership id and for assistance the Office can help if you do not have a logon.
The main points discussed were the interclub, coaching and junior program for this year. Please do not hesitate to ask Anthony, Struan or Tom in the office or Bentley Seeto if you have any questions or suggestions.
